As we finish the year of 2012 we are blessed with a wonderful system of Publicly funded subsidized facilities which have looked favorably on our Sport. This year has been the most successful ever with close to 50 new programs.
Having tabulated the numbers for the largest states and our Canadian provinces, British Columbia has the most public programs in North America. If we were to combine Ontario with us, we would be largest by far. Although many of these programs are in their Infancy and with small numbers, that is to be expected with such rapid growth. In Ontario, four years ago, we did not even know who was playing in the province.
On the positive side, this means that all of our local players will have lots of places to play in all regions of the province and our snowbirds will not have to lament the lack of facilities when they return from their private enclaves down south. For next year, August 16-17 will be the dates for the 3rd annual Canadian National Championship “ The Canada cup of Pickleball” to be held in Montreal. Mark your calendars and connect with your friends in Quebec.
In summary, the future looks bright for pickleball. The catapult for growth has been there since we, the founding members, put together the website www.pickleballcanada.org and solicited the first 400 members in the first year. The rest is history, with our province leading the way. The great membership drive to www.bcpickleball.com runs to the end of January – anybody can win!
My thanks and the board’s thanks go to all who have extended the welcoming hand to new players, helped in our teaching efforts, and especially became regular “picklers “
May your holidays be blessed, healthy and fun! fun! fun!
