THE FIRST REGIONAL TOURNAMENT SPONSORED BY THE TAIWANESE SOCIETY
OF SOUTH SURREY AND AREA – NOV 2ND ON THREE COURTS IN THE CHURCH GYMNASIUM
Of PEACE PORTAL ALLIANCE CHURCH .
Mr David Huang – tournament director, led his 36 players in a social competitive format featuring three
tranches of players A B and C levels of play with approximately 8 teams in each category. The
maximum number of players allowed was 42. The most points per category won the prize for each in a
doubles format featuring 5 games each. All players, all ages, all paddles were welcome in keeping with
www.bcpickleball rules which are inclusive of all players.
Following the tournament and awards, all convened to the Silver dragon restaurant in White Rock
where a no MSG smorgasborg was served. At $10.00 per entry fee, costs of rental of space and food
were covered . It was interesting that some players won all their games, yet did not wiin a medal as their
point score was not high enough within their skill category.
This format precludes that someone ( in this case the Director ) who knows the players was able to
fairly allocate the players into the various categories of skill levels. Perhaps with better communications
between heads of programs and perhaps heads in other provinces we could adapt this method or look at
The described Drop Flyte method to allow more tournaments and competitions , even social ones , to
complete the tournaments without the eliteist aura of “ rankings and ratings and points.
There are several churches surrounding South Surrey Rec that have similar facilities and could put on a
tourney of a similar nature. Let’s hope they do.
A sincere BOW goes to the Taiwanese society for their effort and we hope that they will make this an
